For an autumnal weekend upstate (Rhinebeck, NY)

  1. rent a hybrid vehicle
  2. sleep in an impeccable renovated barn loft
  3. dine at Stissing House, in nearby Pine Plains
  4. greet the morning with homemade granola, baked goods, and strong coffee
  5. shop for vintage goods at the Antique Market behind the Beekman Inn
  6. have a hard cider and french onion soup at Liberty Public House
  7. mosey east for wine tasting at Clinton Vineyards and Millbrook Winery
  8. enjoy the wine and cheese you’ve acquired for a sunset aperitivo while enjoying the view of the pond
  9. leave room for dinner and get the ricotta and spinach ravioli at Mercato Osteria & Enoteca
  10. on your last day, take a long stroll down the country roads
  11. get fresh produce for the rest of your week at the Rhinebeck Farmers Market
  12. take the scenic route home, going out of your way to drive through Storm King National Park
  13. cry upon arrival home, wishing that the weekend was never over

these lists pretty much sum up our (american noveau) lives

this is what we call dinner

Provoleta, a round slab of fried cheese, makes for a savory sort of pancake

Mariquitas Pie, a Cuban-inspired, nachos-like pile of plantain chips loaded with black beans, avocado, and Cotija cheese

first time dining at Tabare last night. delicious menu of nouveau-latin cuisine (they describe it as Uruguayan and Italian), well-priced wine, generous portions, a rustic interior, and we walked in and were seated right away - this place seems like a hidden gem.  we’ll be returning again and again

Love the Chalkboard on Nona Brooklyn that gives updates on local growers, chefs, makers and restaurants. Especially useful for those that change their menus daily, such as Eat.

they’ve been around quite some time, but Sunday Suppers has beautiful photography and reviews of many of our favorite places
perhaps we should get in on one of their class-cooking-dining experiences

Taavo Somer (with Ignacio Mattos) has blessed Williamsburg with his latest project, Isa.  Clearly we’re already fans of his other restaurants, being that dining at American Nouveau restaurants is our most celebrated hobby.
